'Life for a life' she snarls,
eyes burning in flame,
'That's still a murder,
not some pawn in a game'
The voices of passion,
The eyes feverishly sane,
The patron saint of life,
The unforgiving saint of pain,
'Death to those who deserve it'
clenched jaw,
'That only hurts more in pain'
emotions raw
Death penalty argument,
across the english class,

My Poem

Chaos reigned,

Bewilderment was everywhere.

Students used iPhones,

Some listened to Earphones.

Bad ones were fighting,

Good ones were reading.

Just when the teacher stepped in,

Everything began halting.

The teacher was smiling,

Everyone was fretting.

The teacher whipped out an Animal Farm book,

But none were interested enough to look.

The teacher nagged,

Blah! Blah! Blah!

Test! Test! Test!

Failing would be the Best.

Fast rode the knight by Stephen Crane

Fast rode the knight
With spurs, hot and reeking,
Ever waving an eager sword,
"To save my lady!"
Fast rode the knight,
And leaped from saddle to war.
Men of steel flickered and gleamed
Like riot of silver lights,
And the gold of the knight's good banner
Still waved on a castle wall.

A horse,
Blowing, staggering, bloody thing,
Forgotten at foot of castle wall.

Dead at foot of castle wall.

Questions

1) How are the figurative language used in the poem? Give the specific word(s), explain what type of figurative language it is and why the poet chose to use this figurative language?

2) Tell us why you like this poem in no less than 100 words.

Answers

1) This poem uses plenty of Figurative Language. In the first Stanza, he used the words "Fast rode the knight" two times as a hyperbole which helps the reader imagine the speed at which the knight was riding. In the second Stanza, he used the words "A horse" two times to let the readers imagine the horse and its current state. In the first Stanza, he used personification to describe the words "Ever waving an eager sword" . As waving a sword usually means going to battle, so he is personifying bravery. In the first stanza, he uses similes. The words were "Like riot of silver lights", which helps the reader create an image of the gleaming armor the knights were wearing.

2) I liked the poem as it symbolises the bravery of a knight and his loyalty to the Queen. This poem also shows how much a sacrifice the knight was willing to make to save the Queen.

Animal Farm

Hi all viewers! Today, my blog topic is about the book by George Orwell, "Animal Farm". If you have any queries or objections, feel free to post them in the comment box. Now, let me start on the topic. I will be talking about Animal Farm.
Animal Farm is a successful book written by George Orwell which I read a while ago. At first when I bought the book, I thought that it was a book for children as the cover page shows a picture of a cartoon boar. I didn't want to buy the book but my English teacher insisted on it. I carried the book back to class and thought people might laugh and think that I was reading a baby book. However, my opinions of the books were changed by a person from 1O4. He said that Animal Farm was a very nice and interesting book. When I opened the book, I found out that it was a complicated book full of words. What's more, it contained a vast history in it in an indirect manner. The book actually had the same situation as in reality. Each character in the book represents another character real life. It is very hard to remember who each character represents with all the complicated names such as Tzar Nicholas II and Leon Trotsky.
Animal Farm is a book about some animals in a farm that have in common, a dream to overthrow Man and gain freedom. Initially, readers may think that everything ends well when the rebellion is successful. However, towards the end of the story, readers realise that nothing has actually changed at all. The treatment the animals received was the same before and after. If you are interested in reading the book, you can borrow it from the library or buy it from some bookstores. My favourite singing group

These two singing groups are my favourite and these are some of the hits I like from them both. Details about Mousehunt

Hey all! I'm back with the details of Mousehunt I promised in my previous post. Now, let me further explain the game to you. It consists of a few ranks, ranging from the lousiest Novice to the best Countess. In the world, there are only three countesses, according to the database. The ranks can be found on the mousehunt wiki. The link is http://mhwiki.hitgrab.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page. You will have a hunter's horn at the start and after every 15 minutes, you can sound it and get some mouse. The lousiest mouse is white mouse, while the strongest is the Dragon mouse. For some mice, you can even get real life cash! You can obviously tell which is the white mouse, which is the dragon mouse and which is the Leprechaun mouse which gives money. Obviously, you need cheese to catch mouse. Common cheese ranges from cheddar to the unique cheese which requires cash, Superbrie. Some cheese is also received through crafting. If you would craft curds and whey with salt, you will get white cheddar. However, crafting is not always successful. That's all for today, see you again!

My favourite computer game

Hi all again, it has been a long time since I blogged but it couldn't be helped. I had to do revision and many tests with worksheets. Now, after my Chinese test today, I am free to blog about anything I want to. Today, I will blog about my favourite computer game. This game is known as Mousehunt.
The game mousehunt can be found on facebook. it just requires two simple steps. Step 1, create a facebook account. Step 2, do the tutorial for Mousehunt. Then, you can play. This game is considered as boring to many people as you have to wait for 15 minutes before you can sound the Hunter's horn, to catch a mouse. This game is boring to people who are impatient. This game trains your patience so it is good for many things. You do not get hot tempered easily and can have perseverence. However, one should not get addicted. Few people I know, are addicted, such as a guy in my class, Edwin and a friend of mine from Pro-ed, Fu Yang. Another guy called Kenny, has recently got addicted. My Learning Styles Results

Few weeks ago, my form teacher and also english teacher, asked us to go to a website to find out which categories of smartness do we fall in. I did the test and surprisingly I found out that I was not only number and visual smart, but also nature and body smart! It was so unusual that I was actually body smart! I was also close to word smart which I had expected. To my greatest surprise, I found out that I was not intrapersonal smart, which I also thought I was! I had been focussing on being word smart that I had neglected the degree of smartness for being intrapersonal smart! I now, should start working on my intrapersonal level of smartness and also number, which I achieved the top degree of smartness as recently, my mathematical standard has not been that good and I should try to improve it. My New Recreational Activity

Hi all! Today, I am going to talk about the new Recreational activity I have recently picked up. This new hobby is known as International Chess. I like it as it can not only get one's brain alert, but also help people have a clear mind by strategizing. Many people might think that Chinese chess is very much similar to International chess, but however, they are wrong. International chess requires more logical thinking as in to trap the king while Chinese chess only requires thinking and playing. The king in International chess is much easier to escape than Chinese chess, whereby chinese chess, the king is blocked by other pieces. Well, this is all for my new hobby. Hope that some of you will also have the alert mind to pick up Chess.

My CCA

Hi all! I have just received my CCA results last Thursday and as I have stated in earlier posts, I got into NPCC. Although it was not really the desired CCA, I made deal with it and went for the first CCA. I came to realised how fun NPCC actually was! At first, I heard many people saying that NPCC or other uniformed groups were terrible so I did not want to get in and instead, wanted to go into a sport. Since Hwa Chong Institution is full of talented gentlemen, it was no wonder that I could not make it into those prestigious CCAs like table tennis. I felt so lucky after knowing that I had made it into NPCC as it was so fun and helpful in daily life. The people there were also very nice. Well, this is all for now, see you later.

Scrabble

Hi all, today I am going to talk about one of my strengths, Scrabble. I played Scrabble in Primary School and won many prestigious awards. My school, Hougang Primary, was also known as the best Scrabble school in Singapore after winning the champions of champions cup. The trophy we won was very big, almost the size of an adult's head.

To me, Scrabble is a very unique CCA, which helps to improve one's brainpower and also helps in one's english. Everytime I see a chance to play Scrabble, I will leap at the opportunity. After seeing the post on Scrabble on the SMB, I immediately appealed for a chance to go in. Because Scrabble is not a very common CCA in many schools, I have to grab any opportunities that come by. My strengths

Hi all, my name is Mervyn Cheong and this is my second time blogging about daily events. But today, I will be talking more about myself. I will be talking about my strengths so that you can understand me better. My strengths are playing table-tennis and Scrabble. I have went for the try-outs of table-tennis CCA and I did not get in, but at least got into NPCC. Well, this is all for this post, see you again!

My first Current Affairs mock session: What it means to be a Singaporean.

On Friday, 19th of February, my class and I had our very first Current Affairs mock session and the topic was what it meant to be a Singaporean. At the start of the session, I was pretty nervous as not only had I not printed out the marking rubrics, I had also not read the articles on the topic. All I know is that the topic was about Singaporeans.

Luckily, I was not picked as the leader of the panelists or the discussion so I did not have to keep the ball rolling. I took out a piece of paper and jot down notes relating to the articles. After the topic had started, I had an idea of what we were discussing about. Thus, from there on, I participated actively. I talked about what it meant to be singaporean and I soon came to realise that the topic would never end as different people had their different point of view. I voted on loyalty to singapore makes us singaporean while others voted on 'Kiasuism' and "singlish". The topic would never come to an end if it carried on! Well, at least I learnt a few things from the discussion which was to speak confidently and that to think before you say anything or else you will contradict yourself, which I did a few times, before amending my words.

I feel that we should have this kind of discussion topic more often as it is very meaningful and that I can learn more from it. It allows helps one to be able to shout out there views with no right or wrong answers.
